CANFIELD, Ohio – The RMU cross country teams delivered a strong performance Saturday morning at the YSU Collegiate Invitational, sweeping the men's and women's team titles at the Gorby Family Championship Cross Country Course.
The Colonials also swept the individual titles, with senior Julia Dill winning the women's 6K and senior Nathan Wentling claiming the men's 8K crown.
WOMEN CLAIM TEAM TITLE
RMU captured the women's team title with 24 points, placing five runners inside the top nine overall. The Colonials finished seven points ahead of host Youngstown State, which placed second with 31 points.
Dill led the way, crossing the finish line first overall with a time of 21:28.30 to claim the individual title. Senior Samantha Hennen followed directly behind, finishing runner-up in 21:46.32 to give RMU the top two finishers in the field.
Junior Sara Jury was the third Colonial across the line, placing fifth overall with a time of 22:22.65, while junior Kaylee Foringer finished seventh in 22:42.64. Senior Alyssa Croco rounded out RMU's scoring five with a ninth-place finish, clocking in at 23:09.59.
Freshman Nancy Farmer finished 11th overall in 23:30.23, followed by senior Emma Jiancristoforo in 13th at 23:39.82 and freshman Megan Puleio in 14th at 23:42.36.
Senior Ava Deming crossed the line 18th overall with a time of 24:01.63, while junior Emma Bradbury rounded out RMU's competitors in 20th at 24:22.03.
WENTLING LEADS MEN TO VICTORY
The RMU men followed with another team title, scoring 28 points to finish 13 points ahead of runner-up Youngstown State. The Colonials placed four runners inside the top eight and five among the top 14 overall.
Wentling led the charge, winning the individual title with an 8K time of 26:07.94. Freshman Hayden Gaunt crossed the line just behind Wentling, placing second overall in 26:13.18 to give RMU its second one-two finish of the day.
Junior Jacob Bayes placed fifth overall with a time of 26:34.64, while senior Roman Galioto finished eighth in 27:14.52.
Junior James Couch completed RMU's scoring five, crossing the line 14th overall in 27:38.90. Sophomore Max Smith followed in 15th with a time of 27:40.43, while freshman Ryan Ewing placed 18th in 27:55.80.
Sophomore Enzo Jiancristoforo finished 24th in 28:17.61, followed by freshman Daniel Egelston in 27th at 28:24.54. Sophomore Caden Riethmiller placed 29th in 28:46.61, while freshman Ethan Thomas crossed the line 30th with a time of 29:05.03.
Junior Ryan Domencic finished 41st in 30:04.22, while senior Pablo Sutter rounded out the Colonials' competitors in 49th with a time of 31:13.97.
RMU finished the day with two team titles, two individual champions and four top-two individual finishes across the men's and women's races.
