- Prior to college, he played a season in 2021-22 in the NAHL for the North Iowa Bulls
- Appearing in 51 games, he collected 11 goals, 16 assists and 27 points
- In 2020-21, he competed in the NAHL for the Amarillo Bulls
- Japchen posted 13 goals, 13 assists and 26 points over 55 games
- Before the NAHL, he had a season in the AJHL for the Brooks Bandits (2019-20)
