Many associated or having had an opportunity to witness the accomplishments Robert Morris achieved over the last six years can agree on one thing: Velton Jones was the heart and soul of the program during his five seasons at RMU. In his four years on the active roster, Jones led the Colonials to three postseason appearances, including an NCAA Tournament (2010), the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) (2013) and the program’s inaugural appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (2012). Jones was at the head of an RMU squad that finished 3-3 (.500) in the postseason during his time on the roster. Along the way, Jones played without abandon, often putting his body in harm’s way, all in the name of winning. Not surprisingly, Jones shares the honor with two former teammates as being the most successful player in program history in regard to victories. A  natural leader throughout his time at Robert Morris, Jones has dotted his name all over the RMU record book.  A look at the numbers:
- A two-time All-Northeast Conference First Team selection (2012, 2013) ... Also a two-time All-NEC Tournament Team selection (2011, 2012)
- Robert Morris owned a record of 91-50 (.645) during the four years Jones was one the active roster, tied with Russell Johnson (2009-13) and Gary Wallace (2007-11) for most victories by a Colonial
- Appeared in 135 career games, including 125 starting assignments
- Owns RMUÂ career records for games played, starts and consecutive games played (121)
- Established both single-season and career records for free throws made and free-throw attempts ... Set the single-season record in both categories by finishing 207-for-270 (76.7 percent) at the charity stripe as a redshirt junior in 2011-12 ... Finished career 495-for-688 (71.9 percent) at the chalk
- One of four players to play in 37 games as a redshirt junior in 2011-12, a single-season school record for games played
- Became the ninth player in Northeast Conference history, and first Colonial, to eclipse career totals of 1,500 points and 500 assists ... Finished his career at RMU ranked fifth in points (1,588) and second in assists (551)
- One of six Colonials in school history to eclipse 200 career steals, finishing sixth all-time with 220
- Owns eight records by a member of the junior class, including games played (37), starts (36), points (591), field goals attempted (457), assists (167), free throws made (207), free-throws attempted (270) and minutes played (1,096) ... Owns RMUÂ freshman records for games played (35) and starts (35)
- In the NEC Tournament, owns RMUÂ career individual records for games played (11), starts (11), assists (48) and free throws (49) ... Tied an RMUÂ single-game record for assists in the NEC Tournament with 10 in an 87-68 victory over Monmouth (3/1/12) and established single-game marks in free throws made (14) and free-throws attempted (16) in a 71-64 win @ Wagner (3/4/12) ... In the 2012 NEC Tournament sank a total of 21 free throws, the most by a Colonial in school history in the postseasonÂ
- Ranks seventh all-time at Robert Morris in career double-figure scoring games (79), with the Colonials having posted a record of 53-26 (.671) in those contests ... Scored at least 20 points a total of 17 times during his four years on the roster, including two eclipsing the 30-point plateau
- Scored a career-high 38 points in an 82-77 victory @ James Madison (11/22/11) as part of the Philly Hoop Group Classic, finishing 10-for-15 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from deep, and going 15-for-19 at the free-throw ... Jones’ performance against the Dukes is tied for fourth in the RMU?single-game annals ... Also dropped 35 points in an 81-73 overtime win @ Monmouth (1/21/12), helping the Colonials climb out of a 15-point deficit in the second halfÂ
- Registered his lone career double-double in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Northeast Conference Tournament by compiling 12 points and 10 assists in an 87-68 win over Monmouth (3/1/12)
