Michael Landers

RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (11/5/08)

Earning back-to-back RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week accolades is junior safety Michael Landers of the football squad. A native of Springdale, Pa., Landers earned his second straight NEC Defensive Player of the Week (11/3) for his role in a 24-17 win over Central Connecticut State (11/1) at Joe Walton Stadium. Landers finished with eight tackles, his league-leading fifth interception and three breakups in the win. He was also key for the Colonials during a Central Connecticut State drive in the fourth quarter. Landers broke up a Hunter Wanket pass intended for Josue Paul in the end zone, and four players later he teamed with sophomore linebacker Alex DiMichele to stuff Wanket on 4th-and-goal from the RMU one-yard line. Landers is just the third Colonial in school history to earn back-to-back NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining former linebacker John O'Connell (1995-98) and former safety John Rochford (1994-97). On the 2008 campaign Landers ranks third for RMU in tackles (63). He is a media arts major.
