ByLaw 17: Playing & Practice Seasons and Athletically-Related Activities
Practice Prior to the First Day of Classes
For those sports engaging in practice activities prior to the first day of classes (football, field hockey, soccer, cross country, volleyball), a detailed preseason practice schedule is due in the Office of Athletic Compliance prior to June 1.
Declaration of Season
Compliance education in the month of August takes the form of a one-on-one conversation between coach and compliance director regarding the team’s countable dates in the upcoming year. Coaches are expected to bring their proposed calendar, including week declaration and proposed days off. This information is then entered in the “Playing Seasons” module of the NCAA’s CA database. For all sports, a compliance meeting must be scheduled for a date not later than September 1.
First Dates of Competition and Number of Contests/Dates of Competition
First dates of outside competition and the number of contests or dates of competition in the planned playing & practice season must be submitted to the Director of Operations for approval by the Athletic Director, Director of Compliance, Faculty Athletic Representative and Director of Operations at least two months prior to the start of the season.
Recording of Daily and Weekly Hours
Copies of the Countable Athletically Related Activities Time Sheet are available on this website to begin use upon the commencement of athletically related activities in the month of August. When completed each week, this form contains seven days of information recording the team's involvement in countable athletically-related activities. These forms are to be completed and turned in to the Office of Athletic Compliance regardless of whether the sport is in its declared playing & practice season (four hours per day; 20 hours per week) or out of its declared playing & practice season (eight hours per week).
