RMU Camp/Clinic/Event Administration Program

Introduction

Sports camps, clinics, and other practice and competitive events provide opportunities for residents of the community, state, and region to take part in non-credit activities related to competitive sports. These opportunities allow individuals of designated ages to learn skills and strategies and engage in competitive experiences. The following sports are considered a part of the sports camp, clinic, and event program at Robert Morris University.

Soccer (Men's and Women's) Softball
Basketball (Men's and Women's) Lacrosse (Men's and Women's)
Hockey (Men's and Women's) Tennis (Men's and Women's)
Football Track & Field (Men's and Women's)
Golf (Men's and Women's) Volleyball
Rowing

The RMU Camps, Clinics, and Events documents on the following pages have been produced to assist directors that choose to conduct sports camps, clinics, and other athletic events on RMU's campus, to assist RMU athletic department staff conducting their own camp or clinic on or off campus, or to assist any RMU employee in charge of a camp or clinic that is owned by Robert Morris University. These documents will help event directors better understand current NCAA legislation, as well as ensure their on-campus events operate in compliance with NCAA regulations and Athletic Department policies and procedures.

Need RMU Facility Availability or Have General Questions about RMU Hosting Your Event?

Conducting a camp, clinic or other event on RMU's campus begins with contacting RMU to confirm and secure facility availability. This can be accomplished by contacting either of the following two individuals:

Need Athletic Compliance Approval?

All camps, clinic or events to be conducted on RMU's campus or conducted by RMU Athletic Department staff require compliance approval if they intend to serve ANY prospective student-athletes (students who have begun 9th grade -- 7th grade in Men's Basketball).

***If your camp intends to serve only students who are not considered prospective student-athletes, you do not require athletic compliance approval.

How Do I Secure Athletic Compliance Approval If I Need It?

When RMU facility availability has been confirmed and reserved, or if you are an RMU Athletic Department staff member planning an off-campus camp/clinic, you may apply for Athletic Compliance Approval by selecting one of two forms from this website to complete your application. The two forms can be found on the pages that follow, or by clicking the appropriate link below:

Each application begins with a primary "Request for Approval" document. This form is the cornerstone of the camp/clinic/event administration program. Also included in the application are a number of supporting documents covering topics commonly confronted by applicants. All Requests for Approval, including supporting documentation, must be filed with the Office of Athletic Compliance within 30 days of securing your RMU reservation or said reservation is subject to cancellation.

No camp, clinic, or event may begin advertising or soliciting participants in any manner until the Request for Approval form is completed, submitted with corresponding documentation, and approved by the Office of Athletic Compliance.

Upon approval, all original documentation and the Request for Approval document will be returned to the requesting party.

On the pages immediately following this Introduction, you will find helpful information that will instruct you on the ins and outs of requesting approval and conducting an NCAA compliant camp/clinic/event.

Do I Need to Submit Documentation After the Camp/Clinic/Event?

If you are a member of the RMU Athletic Department or you are running a camp owned and operated by Robert Morris University, the answer is YES. Following completion of camp, it is critical the Office of Athletic Compliance certifies the following documentation for all athletic staff or institutionally-owned camps:

  • Employment Roster
  • Additional Free/Reduced Admissions (if granted after those in the original camp request)
  • Additional Gifts and Awards (if granted after those in the original camp request

These forms are included in the initial approval packet and must be returned to the Office of Athletic Compliance within 30 days of the close of camp. Your opportunity to host future RMU camps may be jeopardized by failure to adhere to this deadline.
