RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (10/17/12)

Senior defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof of the football squad is one of two male student-athletes to be honored with an RMU Student-Athlete of the Week accolade after a record-breaking performance @ Bryant (10/13). A native of Gibsonia, Pa., and a two-time member of the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, Nearhoof compiled six tackles, including a career-high tying three sacks, in a 38-35 setback to the Bulldogs last weekend in Smithfield, R.I. Thanks to his three sacks, Nearhoof pushed his career total in the category to 21.5, establishing a new school record. Nearhoof eclipsed the old mark of 19 that was held by former defensive lineman Ray Gensler (2003-06). On the 2012 campaign, Nearhoof is tied for second on the Colonials in tackles with 38, and his five and-a-half sacks is tied for the NEC lead with Sacred Heart's Chaz Partosan. On his career, the biology major is RMU's active leader in tackles with 175.
