Beck continues the proud tradition of Pittsburgh-born talent on the Colonials' roster, carrying with him a playing background with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite youth program and Montour High School. Following that, Beck competed in the junior-level North American Hockey League for three seasons, chipping in 22 points (10 goals) in 87 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights and Springfield Jr. Blues.
