Jon Yohman joined the RMU track & field coaching staff in October of 2019. As part of his duties as an assistant coach, Yohman tutors the RMU throwers and coaches the pole vault while overseeing strength and conditioning for the program.
During the 2020-21 campaign, Yohman helped the Colonials establish a pair of school records, as Keturah Hunter broke the indoor mark in the weight throw as well as the outdoor record in the hammer throw. In addition, Yohman tutored four conference champions as the Colonials claimed seven medals in the throws. During his first season at RMU in 2019-20, the Colonials garnered three medals during the indoor campaign.
Yohman joined the staff with the Colonials after spending 2019 as a volunteer coach at West Virginia University, where he coached the throws. Owning an extensive background in strength and conditioning, Yohman worked with Viking Performance Training as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2018-19 while also working with Ox Strength since 2017.
As a student-athlete with the Penn State men’s track & field program from 2013 to 2018, Yohman was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) and also served as team captain.
Yohman advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries three consecutive years from 2016-18, and in 2017 he advanced to the finals in the shot put, earning All-America honors as well as being named an Academic All-American.
During the 2018 outdoor campaign for the Nittany Lions, Yohman qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in both the discus and the shot put. Also in the shot put, Yohman finished 11th at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a toss of 62’9.25”, which ranks sixth in school history, to earn NCAA All-America accolades.
A certified strength and conditioning specialist as well as owning a Level 1 track & field certification through the USTFCCCA, Yohman, a native New Wilmington, Pa., owns a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership from Penn State.
