Caitlin Cotter

Caitlin Cotter was named head cross country and track & field coach at Robert Morris University in September of 2015 and is in her fifth season leading the Colonials in 2019-20.

In her four seasons at the the helm for the Colonials, Cotter has helped RMU eclipse 90 points at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships for just the second time in the last 15 years. Robert Morris finished with 93 points in 2018 at the indoor championships en route to a third-place finish.

In outdoor track & field, Cotter guided RMU to a point total of 120 in 2018 at the NEC Championships, just the fourth time the Colonials have eclipsed 100 points in the last 15 years.

Cotter was instrumental in the development of Lilly Harnish, who became just the second student-athlete in program history to earn NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer for both indoor and outdoor track & field in the same year when she accomplished the feat in 2018. During Cotter's tenure, numerous school records across the indoor and outdoor campaigns have been broken.

Cotter joined Robert Morris after spending the six years at Duquesne. From 2009 to 2013, Cotter served as an assistant track & field coach and recruiting coordinator for the Dukes before being elevated to head coach in 2013.

During her time as head coach at Duquesne, Cotter helped guide the women’s cross country team to a pair of Atlantic 10 championships (2013, 2014). In honor of earning back-to-back titles, Cotter was selected as the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Overall during her tenure with the Dukes, Cotter coached a total of 22 Atlantic 10 champions and nine NCAA Division I qualifiers.

Prior to joining Duquesne, Cotter spent two seasons at California University of Pennsylvania. She served as a graduate assistant with the program in 2007-08 as well as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2008-09 under two-time Olympic Gold medalist Roger Kingdom.

Cotter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and criminal justice from the University of Tennessee in 2006 as well as a Master of Science degree in business administration from California University of Pennsylvania in 2008.

During her time at the University of Tennessee, Cotter was a four-year letterwinner for the Volunteers as a heptalthlete. Cotter is a native of Gibsonia, Pa., and resides in Pittsburgh with her husband, Sean, and sons Colt and Steel.
