RMU Extends Winning Streak to Three

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team defeated UNC-Greensboro, 3-0 (30-24,30-28, 30-23), Friday afternoon in its first match of the Gardner-Webb Tournament.

Two Colonials tallied double-digit kills, as junior middle blocker / outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) tallied a game high 14 kills while also recording four digs. Senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) tallied 11 kills and added four total blocks, a service ace and a dig.

Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) tallied a team high 39 assists to go along with five digs and a kill, while senior opposite Lisa Jaszka (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) contributed six digs to go along with five service aces and one kill. Sophomore defensive specialist Alaina Gibson (Munice, Ind. / Munice Burris) finished with five digs and a game-high six service aces.

For the match the Colonials recorded a total 14 service aces and 10 total blocks, compared to UNC-Greensboro's seven service aces and one total block.

Robert Morris, under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Rob Thomas, returns to action Sept. 8 when it concludes the Gardner-Webb Tournament. The Colonials take on host Gardner-Webb at 10:00 a.m. before facing off with N.C. Central at 3:00 p.m.
