For the 2006-07 academic year, the Robert Morris University athletic department unveiled a new logo family to be used by the department on apparel and uniforms, publications, merchandise and competition venues. The new athletic mark is keeping with traditional athletic logos, and a new mascot was also unveiled. The process of designing a new athletic logo began in the spring of 2006, when focus groups and a logo selection committee were put together to gather input into how the new logo should look. Rickabaugh Graphics, a design firm based in Columbus, Ohio, that has been creating collegiate identities consistently over the last decade, was chosen to create the logo. The new athletic logo incorporates the Colonial as part of the department's identity, is tough and aggressive, yet with a collegiate style. A look at the new Robert Morris athletic logo family:
