Track and Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season at UNC - Wilmington Cape Fear Classic

Wilmington, N.C. - The Robert Morris University men's and women's track and field teams started off the 2007 outdoor campaign with a bang at the University of North Carolina ? Wilmington Cape Fear Classic this weekend.

Seniors Stephanie Kuhn (Finleyville, Pa. / Ringgold) and Josh Ghaly (Oakdale, Pa. / West Allegheny) punched their tickets for the NCAA East Regional Qualifier this spring with Kuhn capturing second place in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 48.02m and Ghaly claiming first place in the men's pole vault with a height of 5.05m. Both Athletes also will compete in the IC4A / ECAC Championships this spring.

Also qualifying for the IC4A / ECAC Championships were Freshman Ashley Turici (Zelinople, Pa. / Seneca Valley), Senior Christina Roadman (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville) and Senior Courtney Lenart (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley). Turici threw a distance of 42.21m in the women's javelin throw, earning her third place while Roadman competed in the women's discus, earning herself first place with a throw of 42.29m. Lenart placed fourth in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 41.94m.

Freshman Jordan Dyson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick), Junior Mark Caskey (St. Mary's, Pa. / St. Mary's), Junior Kevin Argauer (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls) and Freshman Michael Bowman (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothers) led the way on the men's side. Dyson and Caskey tied for first place in the men's high jump with a height of 1.98m while Argauer claimed first place in both the men's discus throw with a throw of 45.38m and in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 50.25m. Bowman finished the men's javelin throw in first place with a distance of 52.41m.

On the women's side, Junior Nicole Carter (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) nabbed first place in the women's 800-meter dash, finishing the distance in 2:25.80. Freshman Emily Ingle (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) marked a second place finish in the women's 1500-meter with a time of 4:53.96 while Senior Brittany Humphress (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Falls) and Freshman Melitta Brown (York, Ont. / Sacred Heart) placed back-to-back in first and second in the women's triple jump with distances of 11.60m and 11.36m.

The Robert Morris men's and women's track and field teams return to action next weekend, March 31, as half the team travels to the Western Pennsylvania Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa., while the other half heads to Virginia for the George Mason Invitational. The Pittsburgh meet is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. while the Virginia meet is set to start at 10:00 a.m.
