Bethany Beach, Del. / Bear Trap Dunes G.C. - The Robert Morris University men's golf team improved markedly over their spring debut, finishing 17th at the 24-team George Washington Invitational at Bear Trap Dunes G.C. in Bethany Beach, Del. The Colonials cut 35 strokes off their team score from the opening spring tournament, firing a 618 and finishing fifth in par-five scoring (5.10, +4) and tying for sixth with 22 birdies.
University of Pennsylvania won the tournament with a team total of 585, shooting 286 and 299 at the 6,834-yard, par-72 layout. Longwood took second (588) followed by Seton Hall (591) and Delaware and Yale in a tie for fourth (597). Seton Hall's Kyle Morris took medalist honors on the strength of a four-under 68 to open the tournament. he finished at 141, three strokes under par.
Sophomore Adam Farry (Fairfax, Va. / James W. Robinson) led the Colonial contingent of golfers tying for 35th position. Farry fired rounds of 76 and 77 to finish with a 153 total. Sophomore Joe Horvat (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) handled to par-five holes to the tune of two-under, seventh best in the 120-player field, en route to a 155 total (80-75) and a tie for 45th.
Senior Jon Fielder (Carnegie, Pa. / Carlynton) and sophomore Scott Meier (Lexington, Ky. / Paul Laurence Dunbar) each shot 157 totals, tying for 59th. Fiedler opened with a 76 and followed with and 81 while Meier opened with an 80 and went out with a 77. Junior John DeRoy (Powell, Ohio / Olentangy) tied for 99th after opening with a 76 and falling of to an 89 on the second day.
