Box Score Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats snapped their two-game losing skid in CAA play this afternoon as they downed the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team, 16-5, in Villanova, Pa. this afternoon.
Freshman Pat Britton (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) ran the offense for the Colonials (3-8, 0-5 CAA), scored two goals and added an assist for a career high three point game.
Junior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ont. / Grand River Collegiate) picked up two goals to mark his seventh multi-goal game of the season while Senior Carlo Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) scored a goal.
Sophomores Billy Conques (Fairfax, Va. / Paul VI) and Frank Keel (Fort Defiance, Va. / James W. Robinson) registered assists on the day.
Villanova came out of the gate firing, out-shooting the Colonials, 15-2, in the first quarter. After falling behind, 1-0, early, Andrew Watt knotted things up with his 19th goal of the season at 8:35. After the RMU score, the Wildcats put together a four goal run en route to a 5-1 lead going into the second.
Carlo Sunseri marked his 17th game in a row with a point when he cut the deficit to three at 14:16. An assist was awarded to Pat Britton. The Colonials cut even farther into the lead when Watt found the back of the net for the second time less than two minutes later. Villanova didn't sweat from the back-to-back scores as they increased their lead with five consecutive scores, ending the first half with a 9-3 advantage.
RMU started the third quarter off just like the second when Pat Britton tickled the twine on his first score of the game at 14:01. Britton would add his second goal with 1:25 left in the third but unfortunately for the Colonials, Villanova would match their two scores with two of their own in the time between.
The Wildcats kept the pressure on even with an 11-5 lead. Nova peppered the net with five goals in the fourth quarter while their defense kept RMU at bay, shutting out the Colonials in the final frame to seal a 16-5 victory.
Junior Jason Dockum (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon), Freshman Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) and Freshman Brian Guy (Garden City, N.Y. / Chaminade) all saw time in net for the Colonials. Dockum made six saves with nine goals allowed while Barcia stopped six as well with seven goals. Brian Guy allowed no goals and made one save.
Villanova out-shot the Colonials, 49-22. The Wildcats also held the edge in ground balls, 40-22, and in face-offs, winning 19-25 for the game.
Robert Morris wraps up their 2007 season at home this Saturday, April 28, when the Colonials take on #18 Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
