Hofstra Shuts Down Men's Lacrosse, 14-5

Hempstead, N.Y. - Senior Carlo Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) and Junior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ont. / Grand River Collegiate) tallied two-goals a piece as the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team fell to Hofstra University, 14-5, in a Colonial Athletic Association showdown Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) made his first collegiate start for the Colonials recording 13 saves in 52:03 played while Junior John Kennedy (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / Southside) made two saves in 7:57 played.

After surrendering five unanswered goals to Pride in the first quarter, Robert Morris (3-5, 0-3 CAA) held the home team to only one score in the second quarter, peppering the net with two of their own. Carlo Sunseri accounted for both RMU scores, tallying one at 12:30 with an assist awarded to Freshman Pat Britton (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) and another to close out the quarter at 4:30.

Andrew Watt brought the Colonials within three to open up the third quarter at 12:47  but the Pride would deny Robert Morris of getting any closer in the game. Hofstra used a seven goal run from that point on to take both teams into the fourth quarter.

Down, 13-3,  Robert Morris brought the score within eight as Watt would add his second goal of the game at 11:23 followed up by a goal from 2006 All-CAA Rookie team member Frank Keel (Fort Defiance, Va. / James W. Robinson) at 8:28. The Pride closed out the scoring with a goal by Anthony Muscarella, who finished the game with a hat-trick to seal the win with a 14-5 victory.

Hofstra out-shot Robert Morris, 50-18, while winning the ground ball battle, 32-20. Junior Alex Sewell (Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) led the Colonials in face-offs, winning 6-13 for a team total of 9-22.

The men's lacrosse team jumps back into action, looking to snap their three-game losing skid against CAA rival Drexel on Saturday, April 14, at Joe Walton Stadium. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
