RMU Places 59 Student-Athletes on NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll

Moon Township, Pa. - A total of 59 Robert Morris University student-athletes spanning nine sports were named to the 2007 Northeast Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll Wednesday afternoon. Of the 59 student-athletes to garner the honor, 14 are members of the Colonial women's rowing team, the most of any RMU spring program. Rowing was followed by women's lacrosse (11), men's and women's track and field (nine each) and softball (seven).  

To be eligible for the NEC spring academic honor roll, a student-athlete must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.20, completed at least one year of residence and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team. A total of five Robert Morris student-athletes named to the honor roll carry cumulative GPA's of 3.90 or better, including sophomore Mary Kate Egan (Lynch, Md. / Kent County) of the women's lacrosse team. Egan, a member of the All-NEC Second Team in 2007, carries a 3.96 grade point average as a nursing major and is also a member of the Colonial field hockey team. A pair of student-athletes carry a GPA of 3.99, as sophomore Tara Maxwell (Butler, Pa. / Butler) of the women's outdoor track and field team dons the GPA as a manufacturing engineering major, while sophomore Katie Blum (Butler, Pa. / Butler) of the rowing team does the same while studying marketing. 

Also for the women's rowing program, sophomore Michelle Franchi (King of Prussia, Pa. / Upper Merion) carries a 3.90 grade point average as a mathematics major, while junior Nicole Carter (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) of the women's track and field program owns a 3.95 grade point average as a social science major. A total of 26 of the 59 student-athletes for Robert Morris named to the NEC spring academic honor roll carry GPA's of 3.50 or higher, including nine on the women's rowing team.
