The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team suffered its third straight loss tonight with a 1-0 setback to the Rensselaer Engineers at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. The Colonials (10-12-1) unleashed 31 shots on goal but were unable to produce any offense in just their fourth shutout of the season.
In a goaltenders duel, junior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) kept the Engineers in check with a 31 save performance while counterpart Sonja van der Bliek equaled the effort, stopping 31 shots for her seventh win.
After nearly 55 minutes of scoreless hockey, Rensselaer broke the ice late in the third period. Junior defenseman Melanie Guillemette tallied her seventh of goal of season on a shot from the left circle at the 15:10 mark. Julie Aho and Brooke Thompson earned assists on the play.
Both teams played an evenly matched game with Rensselaer holding the advantage in shots, 32-31, while neither team could produce on the power-play.
Robert Morris takes on Rensselaer again tomorrow afternoon in a 3:00 p.m. face-off at the Houston Field House.
