The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team was dealt their second loss of the New Year, falling to the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 3-1, at the TD Banknorth Sports Center Friday afternoon. The Colonials drop to 10-11-1 while Quinnipiac improves to 3-12-4, maintaining a 5-0 lead in the all-time series.
Quinnipiac took control of the game early on, scoring a goal in the first period and adding another in the second period to take a 2-0 lead into the third.
Robert Morris struck late in the third period to cut the lead to 2-1. Junior Megan Picinic (Cliffside Park, N.J. / Princeton Tigerlillies) scored on an extra-attacker opportunity at 19:19. Assisting on the goal were junior Morgan Beikirch (Livonia, N.Y. / Buffalo Bison) and junior Kristen Miles (London, Ontario / London Devillettes).
Quinnipiac took advantage of the Colonials while they were on the six-on-five opportunity, scoring an empty-net goal at 19:38 to seal the victory, 3-1.
Junior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) made 28 saves in the loss while Quinnipiac's Jamie Miller recorded her second straight win with 24 saves.
Quinnipiac out-shot Robert Morris, 31-25. The Colonials held the advantage on the power-play going 1-3 while the Bobcats were 0-4.
Robert Morris has the upcoming week off but resumes play on Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Colonials take on Rensselaer for a two-game series in Troy, N.Y. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
