Box Score Canton, N.Y. (October 25, 2008) ? The Robert Morris University Colonials fell to No. 9 St. Lawrence for the second time this season on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton arena. The Colonials were able to hold the Saints to just two goals in the first and second period, but St. Lawrence had a surge of goals in third to take the 5-0 win.
Marianna Locke put St. Lawrence on the scoreboard just two minutes into action, with Vanessa Edmond adding the assist. The Colonial defense was able to hold off the Saint attack for the remainder of the first period, with senior goalie Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames) putting up 15 saves. Brittany Chartier added two saves for the Saints.
Robert Morris continued to hold off the Saints until 15 minutes into second period action, despite the Saint's triggering off shot after shot. With five minutes left to go in the first period Alley Bero netted the Saints second goal to give St. Lawrence the two goal cushion.
St. Lawrence outshot the Colonials 18 to three in the second period, with McLaughlin holding off 18 pucks and Chartier stopping three.
The Saints scored another quick goal upon entering the third period, when Alison Domenico slipped a puck past McLaughlin at 1:25. Domenico came back three minutes later and scored her second goal of the contest to put the saints up 4-0.
St. Lawrence's Alley Bero tallied her second goal of the contest with two minutes left on clock during a power-play for the Saint's final score.
The Colonials held the Saints to only one power-play goal, despite having 10 opportunities, while Robert Morris went 0-8 on power-play opportunities.
McLaughlin finished the game with 35 saves, while sophomore Colonial netminder Daneca Butterfield (Kronau, Saskatchewan / Notre Dame Hounds) added 10 saves. St. Lawrence goalie Chartier put up 13 saves for her third win of the season.
The Colonials are now 3-3 and return to action on Friday, Oct. 31 when they face RIT in Rochester, N.Y. at 3:00 p.m.
