O'Quinn Earns Third NEC Rookie of the Week Honor

Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman wide receiver James O'Quinn (Vandergrift, Pa. / Kiski Area) of the Robert Morris University football team earned his third weekly honor of the 2008 season from the Northeast Conference Monday, as he was tabbed the NEC Rookie of the Week.

In a 35-20 win at in-state rival Saint Francis (11/15) in RMU's season finale, O'Quinn caught four passes for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He gave Robert Morris its first lead of the day, 7-6, by hauling in a 64-yard score from senior quarterback Erik Cwalinski (Jacobsburg, Ohio / Shadyside) in the first quarter, and he added a 43-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter that gave the Colonials a 28-20 edge.

O'Quinn became just the second freshman in school history to haul in two touchdown passes in a game, joining former tight end Brent Hockenberry (2000-01), who turned the trick on three occasions in 2000.

On the 2008 campaign O'Quinn led the Colonials in receiving yards (622) and touchdown catches (6) while ranking second in receptions (27). His average of 23.0 yards per catch is tops in the Northeast Conference and is also the second-highest mark ever established in the RMU single-season record book. O'Quinn fell just three yards shy of establishing a new freshman record for receiving yards, which is held by Hockenberry.

Under the direction of 15th-year head coach Joe Walton, Robert Morris won four of its final six games of the 2008 campaign to finish with an overall record of 5-6. The Colonials posted a 4-3 record in NEC play, the ninth time in 13 years the program has posted a winning season against league foes, and tied with Central Connecticut State and Sacred Heart for third place in the standings.
