Robert Morris Drops Game to RPI in 2-0 Decision

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? Nov. 22, 2008 -  In game two of the series against Rensselaer, the Robert Morris University Colonials dropped a 2-0 decision to the Engineers on Saturday night at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center. RPI pushed passed a 0-0 deadlock in the third period and scored two goals to win the game. Sophomore goalie Daneca Butterfield (Kronau, Saskatchewan / Notre Dame Hounds) tallied 33 saves in the loss.

In the first period, Robert Morris outshot the Engineers 11 to seven, but was unable to find the net, leaving the first period scoreless. Robert Morris was zero for two on power-play opportunities, while Rensselaer was zero for one.

The second period remained just as silent as the first, with both teams playing resilient defense, holding each other scoreless in three extra-man advantages a piece. Rensselaer put up 19 shots in the period, but Butterfield was able to hold off every attempt.

A score was finally made at 8:25 in the third period when RPI's Whitney Naslund hit the top corner of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Lau Guillemette recorded the assist. Rensselaer increased their lead to 2-0 at 15:07 when Butterfield was screened and Alisa Harrison slipped the puck through her five-hole.

The Colonials were unable to retaliate in the third, giving RPI their eighth win of the season. Robert Morris moves to 5-8-1 overall and is 3-1-0 in the CHA.

The Colonials return to the Robert Morris Island Sports Center next Friday and Saturday when they compete against the Maine Black Bears in their Skate for the Cure contests, where all proceeds will be donated to a breast cancer research foundation. Both games have a 2:05 p.m. start time.
