Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team fell to College Hockey America foe Bemidji State, 7-2, Saturday night at the RMU Island Sports Center. With the loss the Colonials fall to 14-12-3 on the season and to 9-5-2 in CHA action, while the Beavers improve to 14-13-3 overall and to 11-4-3 in CHA play.
The Colonials scored the first goal of the game just 1:30 in before allowing four unanswered goals to the Beavers. Kyle Burton (Calgary, Alberta / Calgary Canucks) put a rebound shot passed Bemidji State goalie Matt Climie after a Chris Margott (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Bay State Breakers) shot. Ryan Cruthers (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Army) also tallied an assist on the play. Matt Pope answered with a power-play goal at the 4:45 mark tying the game at one. Joey Moggach and Matt Read then scored just 1:10 apart giving the Beavers a, 3-1, lead, Moggach's goal came at the 8:21 mark. Travis Winter capped of the first session with BSU's second power-play goal of the period at the 16:22 mark giving them a, 4-1, lead at the intermission.
Bemidji State added three more goals in the second period, giving them seven unanswered goals in the game, making the score, 7-1. Graham McManamin scored at the 6:08 mark and Ryan Cramer added his first of the season at the 10:37 mark before Winter tallied his second power-play goal of the game with 29 seconds left in the period.
The Colonials scored the only goal of the third and final period when David Boguslawski (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Tri-City Storm) scored at the 7:59 mark. Cruthers and Margott both recorded an assist on the play.
Christian Boucher (Orleans, Ontario / Cumberland Grads) suffered the loss allowing five goals on 13 shots, while Wes Russell (Springfield, Ill. / Quinnipiac Bobcats) made seven saves allowing zero goals in 20:34 and freshman Jim Patterson (Kamloops, B.C. / Canmore Eagles) allowed two goals on eight shots.
Matt Climie recorded the victory for the Beavers making 19 saves on 21 shots before Orlando Alamano played the final 10:06 of the game stopping all eight shots he faced.
The Colonials return to action next Saturday, February 23 as they host the U.S. National Under 18 Team at the Island Sports Center at 7:35 p.m.
