Box Score

Brooklyn, N.Y. ? The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team suffered its second straight loss Saturday night as the Manhattan College Jaspers defeated the Colonials, 10-9, in overtime at the Aviator Sports and Recreation Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Colonials' (1-2) offense was led once again by senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) with a four-point performance of two goals and two assists. Seven other players had goals including freshmen Rob Marasti (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon), Keith Lee (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy) and Taylor Caparosa (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis) as well as seniors Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher) and Alex Sewell (Mt. Airy, Md. / Linganore) and juniors Brandon Johnson (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster) and Billy Conques (Fairfax, Va. / Paul VI).

Robert Morris came out firing to start the game, outshooting the Jaspers, 7-5, in the first frame. Watt gave the Colonials a 2-0 lead on back-to-back tallies. The Jaspers answered back though with a man-up score as the first quarter was ending.

Manhattan built off the late momentum with a four-goal run to take a 5-2 lead just six minutes into the second quarter. RMU broke up the run when Johnson scored off an assist from junior Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. / DeSmet) at the 7:39 mark, but another man-up goal by Jaspers would push the lead back to three at 6:38.

Marasti closed out the scoring in the first half with his second goal of the season thanks to a nice feed from Watt at 5:41, forcing the Colonials to take a 6-4 deficit into halftime.

The Colonials turned things around in the second half, outscoring the Jaspers, 5-3, in the final 30 minutes.  Robert Morris opened up the third with an unassisted goal by Fleming to draw within one at 11:38, but the Jaspers quickly responded with another set of goals midway through the frame to push their advantage to 8-5.

After the back-to-back scores, RMU caught fire with a four-goal run starting in the third quarter. The Colonials closed within one with tallies by Caparosa and Sewell to end the quarter followed by a score from Lee to kick off the fourth quarter and tie the game at 8-8.

RMU took the lead when Conques scored an unassisted goal from the left side of the cage at 3:13.

Despite the late surge, Manhattan tied the game with a score from Joseph Mahon with less than 1:30 left to play. The Jaspers went onto to end the game in overtime, scoring the sudden-victory goal on an unassisted play by Salvatore Perotto at 2:08.

Sophomore Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) suffered the loss in goal, stopping 13 shots in 59 minutes worth of work.

The Colonials were outshot, 33-32, while falling in the ground ball battle, 45-35.
