Louisville, Ky. ? The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team suffered a 20-9 setback at the hands of Bellarmine this afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
Senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) registered his second five point game of the season with a goal and four assists.
Sophomore Pat Smith (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) and freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) each had three points with Smith scoring three goals and Tao-Brambleby nabbing two goals and an assist.
Senior Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher) scored two goals, while senior Lee Davis (Melbourne, Australia / Heathdale Christian College) tallied his first score of the season.
Freshman Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) rounded out the offense with an assist.
Bellarmine's offense proved potent and plentiful during the first quarter as the Knights took up nearly 12 minutes with a 5-0 run. RMU cut into the lead with a goal by Fleming as the quarter was ending.
The Colonials capitalized on the late spark with a tally by Watt in the opening minutes of the second. A couple of penalties though would crush the momentum as Bellarmine added two man-up goals to stretch the advantage to 7-2. The Colonials added their third goal of the half with a tally from Smith to take a 7-3 setback into the break.
Bellarmine outscored Robert Morris, 13-6, in the second half including a 7-2 third quarter. Smith and Tao-Brambleby scored two apiece in the half, while Davis and Fleming added goals in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) suffered the loss in net, stopping 12 shots in 45 minutes. Senior John Kennedy (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) closed out the fourth quarter with two saves.
Bellarmine outshot Robert Morris, 50-28, while holding the advantage in ground balls, 23-19.
The Colonials (2-3) return to action on Tuesday, March 4 when they host Presbyterian at Joe Walton Stadium. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
