Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team dropped its second overtime contest this week as the Colonials fell to Villanova, 11-10, in double overtime at Joe Walton Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Having to rally for the second time this week, the Colonials (4-9, 0-4 CAA) overcame an 8-6 deficit in the fourth quarter thanks to the late heroics of  freshman Trevor Moore (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy).  The rookie attackman single-handedly outscored the Wildcats, 4-2, in the frame and gave Robert Morris a 10-9 lead with 5:58 remaining in regulation. However, Villanova would rally as well, scoring  on a  goal by Tim Langan with just :19 showing on the clock to force overtime.

RMU weathered the Wildcats fury through the first overtime period with senior John Kennedy (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) making two key saves. Kennedy finished the game with a career-high 16 save performance in his first start of the year.

Not being able to determine a winner after the first extra-time session, both teams were forced to play a second, in which the Wildcats took control early on. After winning the faceoff to start the quarter, Villanova quickly called a timeout to set up a play. Shortly thereafter, Nova's Paul Webber, who led the Wildcats with six points, set up teammate Tim Driscoll from behind the cage for the tap-in with :51 elapsing.

Both teams played to a 5-5 deadlock after the first half. Robert Morris took an early 2-0 lead off goals by senior Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher) and freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy). Nova caught fire though, scoring four unanswered before senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) stifled the run with his first of the game to take a 4-3 setback into the second.

RMU outscored the Wildcats, 2-1, in the second stanza with a couple of free-lanced markers by Watt. The senior attackman evened the contest at 4-4 after scoring on an around-the-world move in front of the net at 9:02, then tied it again at 5-5wh en freshman Keith Lee (Hudson, Oh. / Western Reserve Academy) beat a failure to advance penalty by heaving the ball 55 yards to him on the crease for the tap-in with :18 left in the half.

Villanova held the advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Colonials, 3-1, to take an 8-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Watt tallied his fourth goal of the game in the frame to finish the day with seven points.

Nova held the lead in shots, 35-29, but the Colonials controlled most of the other statistical categories. RMU was 41-26 in ground balls and 15-25 in faceoffs.

The Colonials look to snap their six-game losing skid when they travel to Newark, Del. on Saturday, April 20 for a CAA-showdown with 2007 Final Four participant Delaware.
