#10 Drexel Defeats Men's Lacrosse, 11-7, in CAA Action

Philadelphia, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team overcame a 4-0 deficit in the first quarter and pulled within one heading into halftime, but the #10 Drexel Dragons held tight on defense with a second shutout performance in the third quarter as they cruised to an 11-7 victory over the Colonials in CAA action this afternoon at Vidas Field. With the win, Drexel improves to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in CAA play while Robert Morris falls to 4-7 and 0-3 in the conference.

Four different Colonials recorded two points on the afternoon including senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate), freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy), junior Billy Conques (Fairfax, Va. / Paul VI) and freshman Keith Lee (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy). Watt and Tao-Brambleby scored two goals each while Conques and Lee added a goal and assist apiece. Along with the two points, Lee also won 7-of-12 faceoffs taken.

After falling behind, 4-0, in the first quarter, Robert Morris returned the favor in the second by pitching a shutout frame and adding three scores in the final three minutes. Watt led the attack with back-to-back goals at 2:54 and 1:15 followed by a score from Tao-Brambleby to bring the team within one with just: 09 showing on the clock.

Despite the rally, Drexel would turn the tables and ice the game in the third with four straight scores to take an 8-3 advantage into the fourth quarter. Senior Andrew Chapman scored two of his team-leading three goals during the run.

Robert Morris outscored the Dragons, 4-3, in the final frame with Conques, Tao-Brambleby, Lee and senior Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher) netting goals to close out the Colonial scoring.

Both goalkeepers played outstanding for their respective teams. Sophomore Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) stopped 17 shots in net while counterpart Bruce Bickford stifled the RMU offense with 15 of his own.

The Dragons outshot the Colonials, 44-37, while also holding the advantage in ground balls, 33-23.

Robert Morris returns to action this Tuesday when the Colonials host Canisius in a non-conference match-up at Joe Walton Stadium. Face-off is schedule for 1:00 p.m.
