Box Score Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team fought through two fourth quarter deficits and tied the game with just under a minute remaining only to see Canisius vacate Joe Walton Stadium with a 16-15 overtime victory this afternoon. With the loss, RMU falls to 4-8 on the season and 0-4 lifetime in overtime games.
Freshman Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) led the team with a career-high seven points, scoring five goals and adding two assists. Senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) and freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) had four points apiece. Watt increased his team-leading point total to 39 on the season with three goals and an assist. Tao-Brambleby tallied a goal and added three assists.
Junior Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. / DeSmet) and junior Billy Conques (Fairfax, Va. / Paul VI) contributed six points. Kerch scored his second hat-trick of the season while Conques picked up two goals and a helper.
Trailing, 11-8, entering the final stanza, Robert Morris kickstarted a comeback with a four-goal run in the span of five minutes. Moore brought the Colonials within one with back-to-back tallies at 14:01 and 13:14, while Kerch wiped the slate clean, 11-11, with his second of the game at 11:53. RMU would take the lead after Moore's fifth goal of the game at 9:06.
Canisius, however, put the Colonials back down again with a three-goal run that ran the clock down to the 5:00 mark. Following the ensuing faceoff, Tao-Brambleby connected on a feed from fellow countryman Moore for his 15th of the season to close the gap back to one.
After a Canisius score at 4:11, Robert Morris fought back in the final three minutes to tie the game. Conques scored at 2:09 to make the score, 15-14, while Kerch gave the Colonials new life with his third of the match with :58 showing on the clock.
Despite the comeback, Canisius would deliver the knockout punch via Greg Michael's second goal of the game at the 2:40 mark in extra-time.
In a rematch of last year's 8-7 OT loss, the Colonials looked as they weren't going to let history get the best of them. Both teams went back-and-forth through the first half en route to an 8-7 halftime score in favor of the home team. RMU's attack subsided though in the third quarter as the Golden Griffins shutout the Colonials, 4-0, and took an 11-8 lead into the fourth.
Sophomore Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) turned away 15 shots while counterpart Bryan Jack equaled the performance with 15 stops as well. Robert Morris held the advantage in shots, 44-40.
The Colonials will look to bounce back from their third one-goal loss of the season this Saturday when they host CAA foe Villanova at Joe Walton Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. faceoff.
