Box Score Boston, Mass. - October 10, 2009 - Despite outshooting the Northeastern Huskies 30 to 29, the Robert Morris University Colonials were defeated 4-0 on Saturday at Matthews Arena. The loss brings the Colonials' record to 1-3-0, while the Huskies improve to 2-0-1.
Northeastern did most of its damage in the first period tallying three even strength goals within a three minute time-frame. The Huskies got their first score on the board when Lori Antflick received a feed from Siena Falino and found the back of the RMU net. Rachel Llanes was credited with the second assist.
Less than a minute later Alyssa Wohlfeiler added to the Huskies lead when she lit the lamp at 8:03 off assists from Annie Hogan and Brittany Esposito. Hogan and Wohlfeler added their second point each to the contest when they assisted on the Huskies third unanswered goal by Stephanie Gavronsky at 10:13. The Colonials continued to fire off shots, but were unable to connect giving the Huskies a 3-0 advantage heading into the second period.
For the first seven minutes of play, neither team was able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity. However, at 7:25 Kristi Kehoe tallied her first goal of the season during a power-play off Wohlfeiler's second assist of the day to bring the score to 4-0. Kasey Cedorchuk was also awarded with an assist. Once again the second half of period remained quiet as neither team was able to score.
Robert Morris put up a solid effort in the final period to make a comeback, outshooting the Huskies 14 to nine. Unfortunately, Northeastern's defensive unit was able to hold off their attack to maintain the 4-0 victory.
Florence Schelling tallied 30 saves for Northeastern in the shutout, while Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) who was making her first collegiate start recorded 25 saves for the Colonials.
The Colonials return home to take on St. Lawrence in their home opening series on Friday, October 16 at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, October 17 at 4:00 p.m.
