Hamden, Conn. - Nov. 2, 2009 - The Robert Morris University Colonials bounced back after its disappointing loss to Bryant yesterday with a 3-0 sweep over the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Monday afternoon at Burt Kahn Court. The win improves the Colonials to 11-18 overall and 8-4 in league play, while the Bobcats drop to 3-23 overall and 2-11 in the NEC.
Robert Morris dominated the first set winning 25-11. Freshman Amanda Craig (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) started the game on a four point run, which set the tone for the remainder of play. The Bobcats were able to side out with a kill from Alyssa Naylor, but they were never able to get within reach of the Colonials. Junior Amanda Graham (Melbourne, Fla. / Eau Gallie) led the set with four kills in route to the win.
The start of the second set looked almost identical to the first with the Colonials opening up with five unanswered points off the serve of junior libero Corinne Moser (Meyersdale, Pa. / Meyersdale). RMU continued to extend its lead off kills from Craig, sophomore Alyssa Bennett (Ramona, Calif. / Ramona) and senior Jessy Nelko (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell). Quinnipiac started to cut into the Colonial lead, but Robert Morris maintained its advantage to capture a 25-18 win. Craig led the set with six kills.
The Bobcats gave the Colonials a bit more of a challenge in the final set, but RMU still secured a 25-20 set victory to earn the match triumph. At 2-2 freshman Lindsey Monger (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) went on a four-point run to set the score at 6-4 in RMU's favor. A kill by Quinnipiac's Kelby Carey brought the score within one at 18-17, but an error by the Bobcats and a kill by Graham gave the Colonials a three point lead at 21-17. After several Bobcat errors and a kill by Craig the Colonials took the set and match win.
Hannah Veith (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington) hit a perfect match, tallying seven kills on seven attempts and Craig led the team with eight kills. Graham captured a match high five blocks and three service aces and Moser led the team with 11 digs.
