#7 Tigers Shut Down Colonials, 4-1

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Robert Morris University men's hockey team closed out its two-game series at #7 Colorado College on Saturday at the Tiger's World Arena. Unlike Friday's back and forth battle, the Tigers quickly took control as they put three goals on the board in the first period to cruise to a 4-1 win over RMU.

Just 40 seconds into the contest, Andrew Hamberg lit the lamp to put Colorado College out in front, 1-0.

It would take another ten minutes, but the Tiger offense would take a two goal lead when CC's leading scorer, Bill Sweatt, beat freshman Eric Levine (Wheeling, Ill. / Pembroke Lumber Kings) to extend the lead to 2-0.  After the second goal, Levine was replaced in net by sophomore Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers).

But just three minutes later, CC would score on Ostergard when Sweatt hit with his second marker of the night at 13:28 of the first to send the Colonials into the first intermission down, 0-3.

At the beginning of the second, RMU would see Levine return between pipes to finish the remainder of the contest as the Colonial netminder.

Still hot from the first period, senior Mike Testwuide notched a fourth Tiger score 6:04 into the second on a power play to take a commanding four goal lead.

However, the Colonials finally got on the board late in the second when senior J.C. Velasquez (Clarkson, Mich. / Green Bay Gamblers) recorded his third of the season from sophomore Trevor Lewis (Lititz, Pa. / Syracuse Stars). Velasquez's goal at 14:04 would be Robert Morris' only goal of Saturday's contest.

Despite power play opportunities for both squads in the third period, neither managed to pick up another goal as the game ended with a 4-1 victory for Colorado College.

The Colonials (3-8-1 ; 1-2-1 CHA) were outshot by the Tigers 40-20.  Levine made 30 saves in 50 minutes of action while Ostergard stopped six shots in just under ten minutes of play.

Robert Morris will have a short rest this week as they return to CHA action on Wednesday night when Niagara University visits the RMU Island Sports Center for a single mid-week game.  The Purple Eagles and Colonials will tangle at 7:05 p.m. before RMU enjoys a nine day break from action.
