Colonials Trounce Blue Hose, 17-4

Clinton, S.C. ? March 10, 2009? The Robert Morris University Colonials continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon with a 17-4 conquest over the Presbyterian Blue Hose at Old Bailey Stadium. With the win the Colonials improve to 6-1, while the Blue Hose fall to 0-6.

In the win, nine Colonials captured goals with Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) leading the way with a season-high six goals, which also tied a program record for goals in a single game. Senior Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. /. DeSmet) also notched a strong performance, notching a trio of goals and an assist, while senior Patrick Smith (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) captured two goals and an assist for three points.

Junior goaltender Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) recorded his sixth win of the season stopping eight balls, while Presbyterian goalie Jon Athens added 10.

In the first quarter the Colonials compiled a commanding eight goal lead. Kerch headed off the scoring by finding the net just 10 seconds into action and Moore led the quarter with three goals, with two coming at the very end of play. The RMU defense played solidly as they held the Blue Hose scoreless in the first stanza of play.

Moore continued his scoring streak in the second half by netting back-to-back goals, both assisted by Rob Marasti (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon), within the first five minutes of play. The Blue Hose defense played harder in the second quarter allowing the Colonials only one more goal by Kerch with one minute left in the half to give them the 11-0 lead.

Kerch started of the second quarter with his third goal of the contest, which was followed two back-to-back goals by Presbyterian to finally get on the score board. Before the end of the quarter the Colonials scored four more goals, with two coming from Smith, while the Blue Hose added one more score to their collection. The two teams headed into the final stanza of play with a 16-3 RMU advantage.

The fourth quarter contained the least amount of action with only two goals being scored. Foy recorded his second goal of the day at 1:38 to set the score at 16-4 and Lee finalized the score at 17-4 less than 20 seconds later, as neither RMU nor Presbyterian was able to score for the remainder of the quarter.

The Colonials head back north to take on Ohio State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
