Colonials End Rebel Games on a High Note

Kissimmee, Fla. ? In its final day of play over spring break, the Robert Morris University softball team concluded its weeklong trip with two eventful contests.  In game one, the Colonials were blanked 7-0 by the quick and hard-hitting Cougars of SUI-Edwardsville.  However, RMU bounced back to surge past Maine 9-1.

SIU-Edwardsville wasted little time getting on board with strong hitting and numerous stolen bases.  SIU-Edwardsville put up two runs in the second inning and tacked on another four in the third.  Up 6-0 going into the fourth, the Cougars extended the lead to 7-0 with another run.

For the Colonials, Stacy Davidson (Akron, Ohio / Springfield) recorded two hits while Sarah Capp (McKees Rocks / Montour) and Susan Perich (Center, Pa. / Center) each had one apiece.

After a tough first game, things started to look up for RMU against Maine.  Freshman pitcher Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) pitched her fourth complete game victory for the Colonials.

Although the Black Bears grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Robert Morris' bat came alive starting in the bottom of the second.  Capp smashed her second home run in just two days to even the game at one all.

In both the fifth and sixth innings, the Colonials exploded with four runs in each.

Capp had a huge day with the bat, going four-for-four with a home run, double and two singles.  She also tallied five RBI and one run.

Fellow freshman, Allie Patton (Poland, Ohio / Poland) also helped lead the RMU offensive assault by posting a three-for-four performance with a double and two singles.

Perich and sophomore Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) also had a multi-hit game against the Black Bears.

After returning home on Saturday, Robert Morris will host the inaugural game at the newly completed North Athletic Complex when cross-town rival Pittsburgh visits for a double header.   The first game will begin at 2:00 p.m., with the second starting at 4:00 p.m.
