Timko Named NEC Player and Rookie of the Week

Moon Township, Pa. ? For the second time this season, freshman Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) of the Robert Morris University softball team has been honored by the Northeast Conference.  On Monday, Timko became the second Colonial in 2009 to earn Player and Rookie of the Week laurels simultaneously.

The first-year player currently leads the NEC and Robert Morris with her .423 batting average and 44 hits.  By tallying 24 RBI, she is second in the conference and first on the Colonial squad. She totaled 12 hits, including three extra-base hits in RMU's six games this past week.

On Saturday, Timko recorded her sixth round tripper of the season and first career grand slam to power the Colonials over Fairleigh Dickinson in the,10-2, victory.  In game two, she went four-for-four with a double.  In Sunday's contest against Sacred Heart, Timko brought in the three game winning runs as the Colonials surged past the Pioneers 4-2 in the first half of the double header.

The Colonials were scheduled to travel to Youngstown State tomorrow afternoon for a twin bill, but due to weather conditions, the contests have been postponed.  On Friday, the Colonials will meet NEC foe Central Connecticut State for more conference action in New Britain, Conn.
