The Robert Morris University Colonials led the Canisius Griffs after the first three quarters of action, 5-3, but the Griffs captured four unanswered goals in the final quarter of play to slip past the Colonials, 7-6, on Tuesday afternoon. The win improves Canisius to 2-6, while the Colonials drop to 8-5.
Sophomores Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) and Keith Lee (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy) led the Colonials with two goals apiece. Tao-Brambleby also added one assist for a three point game. Senior Brandon Johnson (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster) notched a pair of assists in the contest and Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. / DeSmet) recorded a quartet of ground balls.
For the ninth consecutive game, the Colonials captured the first goal of the game. At 2:43 Lee received a pass from Johnson and fired the ball past Griff goalie Bryan Jack to take the early lead. However, Canisius responded with a goal by Matt Barkas seven seconds later and then took the 2-1 lead at 6:44 when John Minieri found the net.
Lee notched his second goal of the game with 4:31 left in the first quarter to knot the score 2-2. The Colonials took over the lead, 4-2, in the second quarter, as freshman Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ontario / Saltfleet) and Sophomore Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) were the only two players to score.
Canisius cut into the Colonials lead in the third quarter when Jimmy Haney got the ball past junior goalie Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) at 4:13. Robert Morris grabbed its largest lead of the game, 6-3, after Tao-Brambleby closed out the third quarter with a goal and then scored the first goal of the final quarter.
The Griffs went on a scoring surge in the final 10:32 seconds and scored four straight goals to steal the win from Robert Morris, 7-6.
The Colonials will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 11 when they host the University of Delaware at 3:30 p.m.
