Long Branch, N.J. ? May 3, 2009 ? The Robert Morris University men's track and field team traveled to Monmouth University this past weekend to compete in the 2009 Northeast Conference Championship and placed eighth out of 11 teams with 47 points.
Senior Kevin Argauer (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. /. Honeoye Falls) notched the Colonials only first-place finish when he recorded a mark of 185'4” in the hammer throw, which was also an NCAA East Regional qualifying mark. He also placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 144'01”.
Freshman Jarad George (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) performed well in the pole vault and placed third with a leap of 12'3.50”. Another freshman, Arthur Leathers (Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key), also had a solid meet and took fourth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:19.00.
Sophomore Charles Gladman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Cardinal Dougherty) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 22.13 and sixth the in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.11. In the preliminary races he tallied even faster times and crossed the finish line in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.92 and recorded a time of 11.09 in the 100-meter dash.
The relay team of Terrance Green (Stamford, Conn. / Milford Academy), Gladman, Ian Melhorn (York, Pa. / Eastern York) and Sherrod Evers (Philadelphia, Pa. / Mastbaum Area) placed second in the 4x100-meter relay with an IC4A qualifying time of 41.84.
The Colonials who qualified for the IC4A Championships will return to action on May 16 to compete in Princeton, N.J.
