Athens, Ohio - Despite threatening weather and rainy conditions, the Robert Morris University cross country teams competed at the Ohio University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. In a shortened 3k race due to lightening, the women's team concluded the day in sixth place. In an aggressive and strong field, the RMU men finished fifth by only three points in the 8k. The University of Dayton snagged first place in the women's race with 25 points while Kent State University won the men's title with a 16 point total.
The women's team was led by freshman Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finishing the shortened 3k course in 11:15.40 which was good enough for 14th place. Behind Domis was sophomore Deb Ostrander (Denton, Md. / North Caroline), junior Jessica Duffel (Punxsutawney, Pa. / Punxsutawney), senior Emily Ingle (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone), and sophomore Marie George (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland).
Freshman Shane Brandt (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside) once again had a strong performance as he finished in eighth with his time of 26:44.01. Sophomore Arthur Leathers (Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) followed behind Brandt as he ended the race in 20th at 27:14.21. Rounding out the men's top five were sophomores Greg Opp (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset) and Brian Mitchell (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) and freshman Michael Robinson (Reynoldsville, Pa. / Dubois).
The Colonials are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to compete in the Murray Keatinge Invitational hosted by the University of Maine.
