PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team scored twice in the first period, twice in third period and once in the second period to earn a, 5-1, win Saturday night against Bentley.
Trevor Lewis (Lititz, Pa. / Syracuse Stars) scored twice and earned an assist to lead the Colonials (8-4-2, 7-4-2) to their win since Nov. 13. After falling behind two goals Friday the Colonials ran out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back against the Falcons (5-7-2, 4-4-1) who entered the weekend winners of three of their last four.
Robert Morris and Bentley played even through the first 15 minute of the first period but the Colonials broke the stalemate at the 16:28 mark of the first frame. Scott Kobialko (Spruce Grove, Alberta / Camrose Kodiaks) scored on a cross ice pass from Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius College) on a break out play started by Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms). Saturday's game was the eighth time Brace, Kobialko and Longpre have been line mates this season during those games they have combined for 28 points. Lewis made it a two score game with 2:10 left in the first fame with his first even-strength tally of the night.
The Colonials and the Falcons continued to battle in the second period but Lewis gave the Colonials a three goal advantage with his fifth goal of the season at the 11:52 of the period. Bentley's Dustin Cloutier cut the lead to two with this third goal of the season but it was not enough to rally the Falcons.
Zach Hervato (Stittsville, Ontario / Smiths Falls Bears) and Longpre added third period tallies to put the game away for the Colonials. Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) made 20 saves in net for RMU while Kyle Rank made 36 stops for the Falcons.
