Emmitsburg, Md. - Over the weekend, the Robert Morris University track and field team visited the campus of Mount St. Mary's for the 2010 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Colonials finished sixth as a team while Monmouth scored 201 points to cruise toward a second consecutive women's team title.
The Monmouth Hawks, who claim their seventh conference crown since 2000, finished well ahead of runner-up Long Island. The Blackbirds scored 145 points and finished above Mount St. Mary's, Sacred Heart and Saint Francis (Pa.) that rounded out the top five teams.
In the pole vault, senior Erica Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) took first place with a mark of 3.45m. Freshman Casey Folga (Erie, Pa. / Harborcreek) also earned a top-five placement as she took fourth with her vault of 3.20m.
Senior Ashley Turici (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley) took second in the javelin throw with her hurl of 41.89m. Fellow Colonial, Rachel Herbstritt (Wilcox, Pa. / Johnsonburg), slipped in the sixth-slot with her mark of 38.24m.
Freshman Taylor Crawford (Woodbury, Pa. / Northern Bedford) took fourth-place in her first-ever conference championship appearance with a mark of 15.19 in the 100m hurdles.
Deb Ostrander (Denton, Md. / North Carolina) faired well in a distance running event as she earned fourth in the 3000m Steeplechase with her time of 11:48.67.
