Robert Morris Falls to Army on the Road, 3-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team fell to conference rival Army, 3-1, in the first meeting between the two teams Friday at Tate Rink.

The Colonials (14-8-2, 9-6-2) got the better of the shots against the Black Knights (7-12-2, 6-8-2) but it was not enough. Army picked up two first period goals and added another in the third period to send RMU to its third loss of 2011.

"Give a lot of credit to Army's defense and Ryan Leets (Army's Goalie)," head men's ice hockey coach Derek Schooley said. "When you outshoot and out chance a team like we did tonight you expect a different result but Army did a great job blocking shots and Leets made 43 saves when shots got through."

Danny Colvin and Marcel Alvarez both netted first period goals for the Black Knights to give them an early lead that they would never relinquish. Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms) scored in the second period at the 15:08 mark to cut the lead to one but it was not enough to rally the Colonials.

Army's Mike Hull put the game out of reach in the third period, finding the net at the 15:40 mark of the third frame. Ryan Leets stopped 43 of the 44 shots he saw to guide the Black Knights to their seventh win of the season.

Eric Levine ( Wheeling, Ill. / Pembroke Lumber Kings) made 15 stops in net for the Colonials who only allowed 18 shots on net. Robert Morris went 0-for-7 on the power play and 4-of-5 on the penalty kill.

Robert Morris and Army are back in action tomorrow at Tate Rink with opening faceoff set for 2:05 p.m.
