Colonials Dominate Al Hall Freedom Games

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's indoor track & field team continued its 2010-11 campaign Saturday afternoon by taking part in the second annual All Hall Freedom Games, hosted by Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa.

A total of six student-athletes and a relay team took home individual titles for the Colonials.

Freshman Merel Van Steenbergen (Boskoop, Netherlands / Coenecopp College Waddinxveen), fresh off a performance in which she established a school record in the 5,000-meter last week, did the same this week in the mile, posting a time of 5:11.10 to win the event.  

In the 800-meter run, junior Debra Ostrander (Denton, Md. / North Caroline) won the individual title thanks to a time of 2:23.79, while freshman Jenny Byerly (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg) finished second with a time of 2:26.24.

Sophomore Nadia McKenna (Reading, Pa. / Governor Mifflin) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08 seconds, and she was followed in the top three spots by sophomore Taylor Crawford (Woodbury, Pa. / Northern Bedford) and junior Hillary Monger (Reading, Pa. / Holy Name). Crawford finished in 9.14 seconds, followed by 9.19 seconds for Monger.

In the field events, a trio of Colonials earned first-place finishes, including sophomore Megan Green (Bellaire, Ohio / Bellaire), freshman Rachel Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) and junior Lakeshia McCloud (Bath, N.Y. / Haverling).

Green posted a toss of 12.96 meters in the weight throw, Kotula won the shot put with a throw of 12.67 meters and McCloud claimed the individual championship in the triple jump with a leap of 10.80 meters.

McKenna and Monger were part of a 4x400-meter relay squad that finished first with a time of 4:08.11. They were joined on the squad by sophomore Sarah Lueck (Monrovia, Md. / Urbana) and freshman Alexa Sarsfield (Springdale, Pa. / Springdale).

Robert Morris continues its 2010-11 campaign Friday, Jan. 28, by taking part in the Youngstown State Scored Meet in Youngstown, Ohio.
