PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team pushed its unbeaten streak to three games Saturday and returned to the national ranks with a win and a thrilling tie against Mercyhurst.
InsideCollegeHockey.com, an ESPN associate, moved the Colonials back into their rankings in the No. 20 spot in this week's rankings. Robert Morris picked up a win and a tie over the weekend against in-state rival Mercyhurst. In his first game since Jan. 15 team captain Chris Kushneriuk (Ottawa, Ontario / Orleans Blues) netted the game-winning goal against the Lakers Friday night as the Colonials skated to a 3-2 win at the Island Sports Center. Saturday, Robert Morris trailed 4-2 entering the final two minutes of regulation when RMU pulled goalie Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) in favor of the extra attacker. The gamble worked twice as the Colonials were able to score two extra attacker goals in the final two minutes of regulation to pick up a 4-4 tie.
The 2010-11 season continues to be a record setting one for Robert Morris. The Colonials have a school record 17 wins this season and Saturday with three assists Denny Urban (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ohio Blue Jackets) set the single season school record for assists. Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms) also tied Chris Margott's school record Saturday night for career points, recording the 136th of his career.
The Colonials return to action Saturday Feb. 19 at the Island Sports Center against RIT, Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard live at RMUColonials.com and Pittsburgh Penguins HD radio.
