Opening Shots
- Robert Morris enters its final series of the regular season needing two points to earn a bye into the second round of the Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament.
- The Colonials enter the weekend with a record of 7-4-0 all-time against the Falcons with a win earlier this season at CONSOL Energy Center.
- In the last meeting between the Falcons and the Colonials took place back in October when Robert Morris rallied from two goals down to knock off Air Force inside the CONSOL Energy Center.
- Robert Morris' current Roster features four of the school's Top 10 players in career points. Nathan Longpre ranks first with 136 points while, Denny Urban sits third in the Colonial record book with 111. Chris Kushneriuk rates seventh in Robert Morris history with 68 points and junior Trevor Lewis ranks 10th with 53 points.
- Nathan Longpre and Adam Brace have combined for 26 goals this season forming the best goal scored tandem at Robert Morris since Longpre teamed with Chris Margott for 33 goals back in the 2008-09 season.
- Denny Urban continued his record break senior season against RIT with his 31st assist of the season. The senior assistant captain's 31 assists are a single season school record.
- Nathan Longpre's 40 points during his senior season rank as the third most by a Colonial during his senior season. Ryan Cruthers holds the record for points in a senior campaign with 49.
- The Colonials win against Canisius Feb. 5 set the school record for wins in a single season with 16. Brooks Ostergard is also nearing a record as he has 13 wins this season, two short of the Colonial record for wins in a season by a single netminder.
- Adam Brace extended his point streak to eight games with his second period goal. The sophomore has a point in 11 of his last 12 games. The streak is just one game short of Nathan Longpre's nine-game streak which is the second longest in school history.
- The Colonials now hold a home record of 10-2-3 at home this season and hold a record of 9-1-3 at the Island Sports Center.
- Robert Morris enters the weekend ranked 42nd in the nation on the power-play while Air Force has the second-best conversion rate on the power play nationally. The Colonials boast the 17th best penalty kill nationally while the Falcons sit 57th in the country on the penalty kill out of 58 teams. Air Force enters the weekend averaging the fewest penalty minutes in the country, while Robert Morris ranks ninth nationally in fewest penalty minutes.
Playoff Chase
Robert Morris enters the weekend needing two points to earn a first round bye in the Atlantic Hockey Associations Championship Tournament. Air Force looks to sweep the Colonials in order to earn the bye into the second round. Robert Morris looks to overcome its road woes in conference action.
The Colonials have not one a conference road game in regulation since Nov. 5. Robert Morris knocked off Niagara Jan. 28 at Dwyer Arena but needed overtime to knock off the Purple Eagles. In their last two road games, the Colonials fell behind early at Canisius trailing 3-0 at the end of the first period and 3-1 at the first intermission in Erie, Pa. against Mercyhurst.
If the Colonials pick up two points in Colorado Springs they will advance to the quarterfinals of the AHA Championship Tournament March 11-13. If Robert Morris fails to earn the two points they will play in a single elimination game March 5 at the Island Sports Center.

The Air Force Falcons
Air Force enters the weekend needing to sweep the Colonials in order to earn a bye into the second of the Atlantic Hockey Championship Tournament. Jacques Lamourex leads the Falcons offensively with 16 goals with 10 coming on the power play. The Falcons rank second in the NCAA on the power play but 57th (out of 58 teams) on the penalty kill. Air Force ranks seventh nationally in scoring offense but just 46th in the nation in scoring defense.
Longpre for Hobey Baker
Nathan Longpre ranks seventh in the nation in points per game with 1.33 points per game. The senior assistant captain ranks eighth nationally in assists per game. Longpre leads the Colonials in points with 40 and goals with 14. Longpre's 40 points this season are the fifth most by a Colonial in a single season. The senior ranks tied for second all-time in games played in Colonial history. Longpre ranks first in Robert Morris history in career points with 136 and also sits first in the Colonial record book in career assists 89.
Urban for All-American
Denny Urban is one of the top all-around defensemen in the nation. Urban ranks second nationally in points per-game by a defenseman and leads the Atlantic Hockey Association in total assists. The senior assistant captain holds the top four single season point totals by a defenseman in Robert Morris history. Urban's 39 points this season are a school record for a defenseman in a single season as are his 31 assists. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native's point total also ranks as the sixth best single season mark in school history (forward or defenseman). Urban is the NCAA's active leader in career point by a defenseman. Urban's 111 career points are also the best active total in the AHA by more than 40 points.
Starting Slow and Finishing Strong
The Colonials have scored 28 first-period goals this season and have six goals in the first 10 minutes. The third period has been a different story with 34 of the Colonials 102 goals coming in the third period and 22 of those 34 third period tallies have come in the final 10 minutes of regulation. In that same time frame of the third period the Colonials have allowed 15 goals. Last season, Robert Morris only scored 18 goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation while allowing 23.
Down But Never Out
Robert Morris continues to showcase its fight this season having comeback from early deficits. Almost every weekend this season the Colonials have found themselves in a hole and have brought themselves back to tie and it some case win games. Robert Morris has failed to score first in 14 games this season and has rallied to win five of those games and pick up a tie in three of those contests.
vs. American International
The Colonials fell behind for the first time this season against American International, 1-0, in the second game of the season but RMU rallied and won the game 6-3.
vs. Air Force
Robert Morris also faced a deficit against Air Force giving up two goals in the first period but once again the Colonials rallied scoring once in the final seconds of the first period and even the score with a second period goal. Nathan Longpre completed the rally with the game-winning goal in the third period.
vs. RIT (Oct. 29)
Robert Morris took an early one goal lead that to Nick Chiavetta but back-to-back tallies from RIT but the Colonials in a 2-1 hole entering the third period. Following a slash by goalie Shan Madolora, Nathan Longpre scored a power-play goal to force overtime in Rochester.
vs. Holy Cross
In their second game with the Crusaders, the Colonials gave up two first period goals. Brooks Ostergard stopped 16 shots over the next two periods to shutout Holy Cross and Adam Brace and Furman South provided the offense to force overtime.
vs. Sacred Heart
The Colonials fell behind two scores to Sacred Heart Nov. 12 and trailed 4-2 entering the third period but Chris Kushneriuk scored with under 30 seconds to play and Robert Morris earned a tie.
vs. Canisius
The Colonials trailed Canisius late in the third period Nov. 20 but Brandon Blandina forced overtime with a goal at the 18:02 mark of the period.
vs. Bentley
Robert Morris fell behind two goals to Bentley less than a minute into the second period. The Colonials once again rallied getting power-play goals from Denny Urban and Nathan Longpre to pick up a tie.
vs. Colgate
RMU allowed Brian Day to open the score in the first period with a power-play goal but after three unanswered goals by the Colonials, RMU had its fifth consecutive win.
vs. RIT (Dec. 30)
The Colonials fell behind two goals early to the Tigers but found the net twice before the end of the first period to even the score at two. A second period tally from RIT put Robert Morris in another hole but the Colonials once again put on their rally caps and tied the Tigers at three with an early third period power-play goal from Trevor Lewis.
vs. UConn
Robert Morris fell behind in both games against the Huskies 1-0. Jan. 14, Nathan Longpre led the come back with a goal and an assist in less than 40 seconds. Jan. 15 - After falling behind for the second consecutive night 1-0, the Colonials got goals from four different players to earn a weekend sweep against UConn.
vs. Niagara (Jan. 28)
Robert Morris trailed twice once with the score 1-0 and again at 3-2 but both times the Colonials rallied to tie the game. Niagara forced overtime with a late goal of its own but Brandon Blandina scored 14 seconds into the extra frame to give Robert Morris the win.
vs. Canisius (Feb. 3)
The Colonials surrendered three first period goals to face their largest AHA deficit ever but rallied with three goals in the second period to tie the game entering the third frame. RMU took a brief 4-3 lead in the third thanks to a goal from Josh Jones but two Cory Conacher goals gave the Colonials a loss.
vs. Mercyhurst (Feb. 13)
The Lakers scored 35 seconds into the game but Furman South tied the game 1:01 later to tie the game at one. Mercyhurst then scored two unanswered goals to the Lakers a two goal lead. The Lakers entered the final two minutes of regulation holding a 4-2 lead until, Trevor Lewis scored twice in the final two minutes to help the Colonials earn a tie against the Lakers.

Last Time Out
The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team earned a decisive, 5-3, win against RIT in front of a record crowd at the Island Sports Center, ending the nation's longest unbeaten streak.
The Colonials (18-9-5, 13-7-5) scored three times in the first period and never looked back against the Tigers (16-9-7, 15-4-6) who enter the night with an NCAA best 11-game unbeaten streak. Five different Colonials found the net against RIT's Shane Madolora, who entered the game with the NCAA leader in goals-against average, save percentage and undefeated. Adam Brace scored his second game-winning goal of the season as RMU scored five goals in the first two periods.
Robert Morris and RIT felt each other out early in the first period but it was the Colonials who would strike first. Following a delay in action due to an injury to official, Zach Hervato won a faceoff on the right hand side of Madolora back to Brock Meadows. The senior assistant captain fired a shot on net that was tipped in the slot by Tom Brooks to give RMU the early advantage at the 14:15 mark of the first period. The Colonials pushed the advantage to two when Ron Cramer netted his seventh goal of the season at the 17:11 mark of the first frame knocking home a rebound on a shot by Trevor Lewis. Less than a minute later, Hervato extended the lead to three with sixth goal of the season.
RIT responded in the second period with a goal from Bryan Potts, who scored back door on an excellent pass by Tyler Brenner. Robert Morris pushed the advantage back to three when Brace netted his 12th goal of the season to extend his point streak to eight games. Cody Crichton sent the Island Sports Center record crowd of 1,229 into a frenzy when he scored a power-play goal at the 13:03 mark of the second to push the lead to 5-1. RIT was able to cut into the lead with a power-play goal from Chris Saracino in the final minute of the second stanza.
RIT scored the only goal of the third period as Bryan Potts netted his second goal of the game and just the third of this career to finish off the scoring. Brooks Ostergard stopped 33 shots over the final two periods as the Colonials picked a critical Atlantic Hockey Association win.
Robert Morris posted a mark of 1-for-5 on the power play and a tallied seven penalty kills in eight chances Saturday night. Ostergard stopped 11 shots on the penalty kill as the Colonials have now killed off 24 of the last 26 opposing team's power plays.
Last Time They Met
The Robert Morris University men's hockey team pushed its record to 4-0-0 Sunday night, rallying from two-goals down to knock off Air Force, 3-2, inside CONSOL Energy Center in the RMU Hockey Showcase.
After falling behind two scores in the first period, the Colonials scored late in the first and on the power-play in the second to even the score. Nathan Longpre capped the rally with the game-winning goal late in the third period.
Longpre scored with 2:11 second remaining in the third period to keep Robert Morris' record unblemished. Longpre also hit a personal milestone Sunday becoming just the second player in Colonials history to record 100 career points. The senior assistant captain hit the mark in the second period picking up the second assist on Chris Kushneriuk's game-tying goal.
Robert Morris started slow falling behind in the first period after Mike Walsh scored 6:09 into the game. George Michalke stretched the lead to 2-0 at the 18:28 mark with the Falcons second even-strength goal of the period. The period looked like it would end with Air Force holding a two-goal advantage until Ron Cramer fired a shot behind the Falcon net. Cody Crichton dug the puck out and launched a shot on net and Air Force goalkeeper Jason Torf could not control the rebound, in scramble for the puck Trevor Lewis cut the lead in half with one second remaining in the first period.
For the second consecutive game the Robert Morris power-play came through in a big way with Kushneriuk picking up a goal to even the score at 17:30 mark of the second period.
The Frozen Four Comes to Pittsburgh in 2013
The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee has chosen the city of Pittsburgh as the site of the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four.
Robert Morris University, in conjunction with VisitPittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL), will serve as host of the event at the CONSOL Energy Center.
On the Horizon
Robert Morris returns home for its first ever home post season contest. The outcome of the Colonials games against Air Force will determine whether the game will be a single elimination game in the first round (March 4 or 5) or a second round best-of-three series (March 11-13).
