Robert Morris Takes OT Thriller, 14-13

Box Score Detroit, Mich. - Senior captain Trevor Moore's (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia / Western Reserve Academy) fourth goal of the day was the game-winner as the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team took down Detroit, 14-13, in an overtime thriller in a game in which it never trailed Sunday afternoon at Titan Field.

Moore' score came with 1:35 remaining in overtime after Detroit had tied the game, 13-13, with 7:32 remaining in regulation. He put home a game-high total in goals despite needing just seven shots to do so.

Moore's great offensive performance wasn't even enough to lead the team in points as that distinction went to redshirt senior Patrick Smith (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) who collected two goals and three assists. Juniors Kyle Buchanan (Nepean, Ontario / John McCrae) and Kevin Brownell (Burlington, Ontario / Central) both added two goals and two assists while senior Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, British Columbia / Western Reserve Academy) collected a hat trick on just four shot attempts.

For the second consecutive game, redshirt sophomore Charles Ruppert (Long Island, N.Y. / Massapequa) reset his career best for saves as he stopped 18 Titan shots.

The Colonials jumped out to an early lead as a pair of Moore scores, along with Jake Hayes' (Calgary, Alberta / Central Memorial) first goal of the season, in the opening 15 minutes helped RMU take a 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Detroit started a comeback attempt during the second as it closed the half on a three-goal run and entered the intermission trailing by a lone score, 9-8.

A pair of goals by Brownell in under a five-minute span near the end of the third quarter pushed RMU's lead back to three, 13-10 as it began the fourth. The Titans showed determination and were able to fight back in the fourth to the tie the game.

Buchanan also tied for the team high with seven ground balls while defenseman Stephen Lindsley (Chesterfield, Mo. / Lindenwood University) and Mike Rowse (Urbana, Md. / Urbana) each notched three caused turnovers apiece.

The overtime victory was the first for RMU since its 2009 home opener when it took down in-state foe Penn State, 12-11, in double overtime as Tao-Brambleby scored the game-winner.

With its three-game road trip now in the books, Robert Morris will return to home action Saturday, March 19 when it meets Bellarmine. The first faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
