NCAA Second Round Finds Mercatoris Sitting 26th

Erie, Colo. / Colorado National G.C.-A rain delay for the second consecutive day cooled off Robert Morris University's C.G. Mercatoris (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) as well as soaking the course at the NCAA Colorado Regional in Erie, Colo. The senior was tied for fourth overall after posting an opening round of three-under par 69 at the 7,758-yard layout at Colorado National Golf Club, the longest course in NCAA Tournament history.

Mercatoris started his second round in a tie for fourth place before scoring a bogey on the 10th hole where he opened his round. He recovered to birdie the par-five 12th and the par-four 13th to move to four-under overall and one-under for the round. He stayed at that number until Colorado National Golf Club was hit with a thunderstorm that forced a 1:35 minute rain delay as he finished up the 18th hole.

After restarting his round on the first hole, Mercatoris accepted a pair of pars. The senior slipped on the final seven holes though, picking up four bogeys over the final seven holes to finish with a 75 in the second round and move to even par overall. He sits in 26th position with 18 holes left to play.

Mercatoris finished his first round at three-under after carding birdies on the final two holes. Rain shortened the senior's first day of action after 16 holes and he was forced to finish his opening round Friday morning.

In Thursday's action, Mercatoris started his round with a birdie on 442-yard par-four opening hole. He scored five consecutive pars before moving to two under with a four on the par-five seventh hole that measures 576 yards.

Four more pars came before Mercatoris hit his first bump in the road, taking a six on the 564-yard 12th hole. He had just holed out for par on the longest hole in NCAA tournament history, the 696-yard 15th hole, when play was suspended.

The senior finished his first round Friday morning by carding three on the par-four 17th and 18th holes. His final bird moved him to three under on the 452-yard 18th hole, putting him in a tie for fourth after the first round's action was tallied.
