PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Jan. 14, 2012 – Brooks Ostergard stopped all but one of the 38 shots he faced against Holy Cross on Saturday night, but one goal would be enough for the Crusaders as the Robert Morris men's hockey team fell 1-0 on Saturday night to split the weekend.

“I've said it every weekend – it's hard to win games in this league with the level of talent we see week-in and week-out. Give Holy Cross a lot of credit – they did a lot of things well. They put us out of our comfort zone and took advantage of their chances.” Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley said. “We'll learn from tonight and come back ready to play next weekend.”

A night after notching a 4-3 overtime win, Robert Morris (10-9-3 overall, 8-4-3 Atlantic Hockey) couldn't replicate the magic in Saturday's follow up. The Colonials survived a five-minute misconduct to senior forward Furman South (Sewickley, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) in the first period, and matched Holy Cross' 11 shots in the opening stanza despite the extended penalty. The Crusaders (10-10-1, 8-5-1) would find the scoreboard 5:45 into the second period when Erik Vos notched his third goal of the weekend with assists from Andrew Cox and Matt Gordon.

The Colonials had several chances to match Saturday's opponent – the best coming off a neutral zone turnover that gave freshman forward Cody Wydo (Allen Park, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets) a breakaway midway through the third. The newcomer, who tallied a pair of goals on Friday and sits tied for second in the nation among freshmen with 11 goals, went high, glove side on Holy Cross' Derek Kump but couldn't convert. Kump would finish the night with 29 saves and his first career shutout.

Behind Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) (5-7-2), the Robert Morris defense kept a hot Holy Cross offense quiet save for the second-period goal. The Colonials blocked 13 shots in front of Ostergard while the RMU penalty kill silenced the tenth-best power-play in the nation on four opportunities including the five-minute major.

Robert Morris is back in action next weekend with a pair of AHA games at Connecticut. Both games in the Friday/Saturday series are slated for 7:05 p.m. start times.
