RMU Wins Game One at Rensselaer

Box Score

Troy, N.Y. - In game one of a non-conference series with the Rensselaer Engineers, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team came out on top, 3-2.

Junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Ebticoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) dished out an assist and scored her third goal of the season to lead the Colonial scoring effort.

RMU would score the opening goal of the contest just 11:28 into the first period when Imbrogno dumped the puck in front of the net to find forward Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire) who would score the first goal of her sophomore campaign to give the Colonials an early advantage.

Just two minutes later, RPI would return the favor as senior Taylor Horton scored her fourth goal of the season.  Sophomore forward Taylor Mahoney dished out her first assist of the season on the score while senior defenseman Katie Daniels registered the secondary assist on the first Engineer goal.

On the third RMU power play opportunity of the contest, Imbrogno would score her first power play goal of the season, 13th of her career, to put the Colonials ahead, 2-1.  Junior forward Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) passed off the senior forward Kelsey Thomas (Hamiliton, Ontario / Hamiliton Hawks) who found Imbrogno at the point for the score.

The Colonials would add to their advantage with 1:44 remaining in the third period when senior Cobina Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / Ottawa Jr. Senators) scored an impressive breakaway goal.  Thomas would register her second assist of the afternoon on the third RMU goal while sophomore defenseman Kelsey Gunn (Smith Falls, Ontario / Niagara University) passed out her second assist in two games.  The goal for Delaney is her second in two games while she has registered six points in RMU's past three games.

1:23 later, RPI would attempt a comeback as it used a 6-4 player advantage to tally an extra-attacker goal to come within one of RMU.  The extra-attacker goal was scored by freshman forward Alexa Gruschow while defenseman Andie LeDonne and forward Jordan Smelker notched the assists.

Senior goalie Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) earned the victory in net for Robert Morris.  DiCiocco registed 25 saves, 11 of which came in the second period.  The win this afternoon marks DiCiocco's fourth consecutive win.  The senior now owns a record of 5-2-1 on the season.

The Colonials take on the Engineers tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 17 for game two of the series.  Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. at Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y.
