RMU Concludes Fall Slate at Purple Eagle Invite

Senior Carolina Mourao Teixeira goes 2-1 in singles action in 2013-14 debut

The Robert Morris University women's tennis team wrapped up its 2013 fall slate this weekend by taking part in the Purple Eagle Invitational, which was hosted by Niagara.

Returning to the lineup after missing RMU's season-opening victory over Slippery Rock, senior Carolina Mourao Teixeira (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil / Cruzeiro) posted a 2-1 mark in singles action.

Mourao Teixeira swept Tina Miller of Roberts Wesleyan, 6-0 and 6-0, and also earned a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) victory over Courtney Thompson of Mercyhurst. Her only setback of the invite came against Sarah Hellstern of the host Purple Eagles, who needed three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, for the win over.

Also going 2-1 in singles play at the invitational were sophomores Marie-Sophie Heine (Wanze, Belgium / Saint Quirin) and Dounia Zinbi (Halle, Belgium / College St. Augustin) and freshman Alina Schibol (Hamburg, Germany).

Heine defeated Camilla Linhart of Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3 and 6-2, and Katelyn Caniford of Mercyhurst, 6-0 and 6-2, while Zinbi earned an 8-2 win over Kaitlynn Zaffuto of Roberts Wesleyan and a 7-6, 6-2 victory against Devon Hubbard of Mercyhurst.

Schibol capped her fall with a 3-1 record in singles action along with Heine and Zinbi thanks to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Emily Linhart of Roberts Wesleyan and a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Taylor Wedlake of Mercyhurst.
