Top Story - The Colonials begin their 2013-14 campaign this Friday with a home series against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). This past Sunday, Robert Morris defeated the Toronto Junior Aeros, 6-2, in their only exhibition contest of the season. Senior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno registered a hat trick on the afternoon, with two of her goals coming in the first period, and  juniors Maddie Collias and Rebecca Vint each had a goal and two assists. This marked the first time since 2010-11 where the Colonials played just one exhibition game before regular season play.

Series vs. RPI - RMU trails RPI in the all-time series, 5-7-2, but has enjoyed recent success against the Engineers. The Colonials went 1-0-1 last season against RPI, defeating them 3-2 in their first contest before playing to a 1-1 tie in the series finale. Thea Imbrogno, Maddie Collias, and recently departed senior Cobina Delaney all scored goals in the win, with Imbrogno earning an assist on Collias' strike. Overall, RMU is undefeated in their last five games (4-0-1) against the Engineers, with their last loss coming on Nov. 27, 2009.

Scouting RPI - RPI finished last season with an overall record of 10-22-4, and conference record of 8-12-2 in ECAC Hockey. The Engineers return five out of their six leading scorers, including sophomore forward Alexa Gruschow (13 goals, 14 assists, 27 points) and senior captain Jordan Smelker (9 goals, 12 assists, 21 points). RPI's top two goalies - juniors Kelly O'Brien and Brianna Piper - also return. O'Brien started 31 games and posted a save percentage of .905 and a GAA of 2.48. The Engineers won both of their exhibition contests, defeating the Ottawa Junior Senators, 5-0, on Sept. 22, and Brock University, 9-0, this past Sunday.

Last Time Out - The Robert Morris University women's hockey team kicked off the 2013-14 season with a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Junior Aeros in exhibition game this past Sunday. The Aeros came into the contest with a 1-1 exhibition record on the weekend, falling to RIT on Friday, 5-2, but bouncing back with a 2-1 victory over Ohio State on Saturday.

The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes as senior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno tallied two goals and two-time CHA First Team honoree Rebecca Vint added a power play strike with five seconds remaining. Imbrogno earned a hat trick in the second period as the forward scored on the power play with help from Vint and freshman defenseman Mikela Lowater.

The Aeros would get on the board 1:10 into the third period on the power play as Julia Fedeski corralled a pass from Jessica Gazzola and beat the RMU goaltender. RMU would answer right back with two goals within 43 seconds of each other. The first came from junior forward Maddie Collias, who enjoyed a four-point afternoon along with Vint, and the second came from freshman Maeve Garvey, who got help from fellow freshman forward Brittany Howard and senior captain Kristen Richards.

Toronto put a crooked number up with 54 seconds remaining as MacKenzie MacNeil found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. The three Colonial goalies combined to stop 25 of 27 shots for a save percentage of .926, whereas the Aeros netminders held a save percentage of .800 after stopping 24 of 30 shots.

Quick Starter - Senior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno has enjoyed a lot of success in her career with RMU, and she's started each one of her seasons on a good note. The forward has compiled seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) in the three regular season openers she's played in.

Imbrogno started her career in 2010 off with a bang, registering three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in a 5-4 victory over No. 10 Providence. The forward assisted on the first two Colonial goals of the contests, then set off the horn with one of her own in the second period.

In RMU's 8-0 victory over Lindenwood in the 2011 season opener, Imbrogno added another three points (1 goal, 2 assists). In the contest with the Lions, the forward picked up her first goal of the season in the second period on a power play, then assisted on a delayed-penalty score and a short-handed goal.

Last season, the Colonials were deadlocked with Yale through two periods, but Imbrogno's assist on Kristen Richards' first goal with RMU made the difference in a 2-0 win.
