RMU Falls to Bonnies, Purple Eagles

The Robert Morris University women's tennis team continued its 2013 spring season this past weekend with a pair of matches in Western New York, dropping a 4-3 setback at St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon before falling at Niagara, 5-2, Saturday.
The pair of losses drop RMU to 0-6 in dual matches in 2012-13.
The Colonials picked up a pair of singles victories as well as the doubles point against the Bonnies, as freshman Dounia Zinbi (Halle, Belgium) knocked off Riley Archer at the No. 5 flight, 6-0 and 6-0.
Senior Isabella Novella (Santo Andre, Brazil) also posted a straight set sweep at the No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jillian Hammell.
In doubles play, Zinbi and Novella teamed up for an 8-2 win over Archer and Hammell at the No. 3 flight to help RMU earn the point. At the No. 1 flight, seniors Samantha Alves (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and Clarissa Chen (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Winnipeg Secondary) defeated Fatya Amiri and Marissa Brossard, 8-7.
Against the Purple Eagles, Chen and Novella each picked up singles victories for Robert Morris. Chen defeated Iva Celan at the No. 3 flight, 6-3 and 6-3, while Novella improved 3-2 in singles action so far this season thanks to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Viki Sardelitti.
Robert Morris is next in action with a trio of matches in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Colonials will take on Chicago State and Youngstown State in a pair of neutral-site tilts Friday, Feb. 15, before taking on IPFW Saturday, Feb. 16.
